"I approach all of these recipes with an open mind--Laura has some of the best around! I never expect any of the dessert substitutes to be like the real thing, but having said that, I think they should at least taste o.k. However, these brownies were not even passable. I have to say in general that I have a real problem with people describing the taste of flax as "nutty," just because it has a nut-brown color. It does NOT have a nutty flavor--it tastes like a freshly mowed lawn, something like hay that cows chew on. I am considering tweaking the recipe to use half flax and half almond meal, so as to reap the benefits of flax without the miserable taste. By the way, I don't mean to complain or sound grumpy, I'm just keeping it real."
