Favorite road trip treat,

"I used to make this recipe years ago but lost it during a move in 1985. It was my husband's favorite treat and something I always made for road trips. It is a lengthy recipe and somewhat complicated in terms of timing. Do not make the frosting after the bars have finished baking. I always start the frosting when the bars have 10 minutes left to bake. I cannot make frosting in 2 minutes. I also prefer the cream cheese layer without the 1/4 cup of nuts. I have made this recipe for potluck meals and they always disappeared quickly and were a family favorite. I can hardly wait to start baking."
