"These were my favorite cookies my grandmother made but she never gave me the recipe. I'm so happy to have found it. I got the meringue to get to stiff peaks by adding a pinch of cream of tartar as they started to foam, then slowly adding the white sugar and only adding the brown sugar after they got stiff and mixing just to blend. Worked great."
