UMP's Disappoints, August 11, 2009
By NLRBaseballFan

"The above review is a bit generous. Things may have been better early in the season but they are not ending well. I certainly would not go to the park for just UMP's.

The best that can be said is average food and poor service. My wife and I have visited UMP's 4 times during the 2009 baseball season and found it lacking all but once. We love Dickey-Stevens balp.ark and the Travs so we keep giving UMP's another chance (but we will not do so again this year).

Service is slow to say the least. We have always ordered uncomplicated items from the menu that you would expect could be served quickly (burgers, sandwiches, pasta, even salads). In every instance the food took 30-45 minutes to arrive (slightly over an hour in one case). In only one instance was the wait staff up to the task, they always appeared to be under staffed or short handed. On one visit the waitress even acknowledged that they did not have enough employees on staff to handle game nights.

Food quality varies from average to poor.

The burger looks rather smallish on the relatively large onion roll and is a standard frozen manufactured pattie you could get at any food-service wholesaler. Almost always overcooked and dry. On a recent visit I ordered the burger (I apparently never learn), the burger arrived overcooked on a burnt (solid black hidden under the lettuce) bun. Sent it back and this time the BURGER was black. One would think that extra care would be taken on a do-over. I ate at the concession stand that evening.

Salads are not too bad. If you order any of the Caesar salads consider yourself warned, the cook loves garlic (big time). We like garlic so can't complain about the flavor but plan to sit by yourself at the game or chew a LOT of mints. Be aware that the Shrimp and Chicken salads are rather smallish for a $9-10 salad. My wife commented they were good but too expensive for the portion size.

I have to admit we have not sampled their higher priced specialty items, they may be excellent but to be honest if the can't get the simple stuff right we will never take the risk.

They get another chance in 2010 when baseball season starts. If UMP's management read this, take away this message: Get more waitstaff for the games and pay attention to food quality. It matters!"
