Is the food worth the price?, June 3, 2009
By midnitglory

"As a fan of Italian food and culture, I quickly fell in love with the buca di beppo atmosphere and food. It took me quite a few dinning experience to realize that this food was nothing short of frozen entrees and cheap ingredients covered in oil and smothered in butter.
Now, I am not here to bash the restaurant. It is a friendly, clean, family type place to meet with friends in large groups and have a good time. My only problem is, that they charge the same price high end places would for the same exact food that you can get at a pizza shop for a lot less money.
Some of the foods that I have tried at Buca di beppo include: spicy stuffed shells, manicotti, ravioli, garlic mashed potatoes, pizza angelo, spaghetti and meatballs, and the the famous large meatball in sauce.
I always thought that they made the meatballs fresh daily at least, but one time I ordered the side meatball it was still partially frozen in the middle. Now I don't mind eating food that was previously frozen , (I purchase frozen foods at my local grocery store) but to pay $4.99 for a meatball that was made days ago? You be the judge of that whether it is fair or not.
Next I would like to discuss the pizza angelo. I love pizza and decided to order a different type of pizza for dinner. In the buca website the description for this particular pizza is posted:

Pizza Angelo

Tender chicken breast, mozzarella, roasted corn, fresh mushrooms, fresh thyme and Alfredo sauce topped with Parmesan potato chips.

Buca Small

$14.99

Buca Large

$20.99
sounds good does it not? Well when I paid 20.99 and received a long piece of flat bread with cheese and some scattered meat I was not very happy. The taste of the pizza,(after I dabbed the whole pie with napkins to remove the excess oil) was quite good, but I will never pay that much again for that little bit of pizza.
Bottom line, I think that you are paying more for the atmosphere and the service, than for good quality food. If you have money and want to accommodate a large group of people than this is the place for you, however if you are hungry for a pizza or Italian meal, save your money and time by calling in to your local mom and pop pizza shop for fast delivery."
