"Firstly, please note that I've only had this for two days. The version I bought (from Amazon) is the 1000H with 1 GB of RAM, and I also bought a 2 GB tray to replace the ! GB originally installed.

So far I've been busy installing things like all the .NET patches, an anti-virus program, and some music programs. From these I found:

+ Adding new memory. You need a teeny-tiny screwdriver, but just two screws and you're at the memory & hard drive, and ASUS introduce you to it, so there's none of the "break tape and void warranty" nonsense !

+ all the .NET stuff loaded fine, so I can use it to test the programs that I write !

+ WinAmp and iTunes load and run fine

+ All programs can see and work with an external USB CD/DVD reader/burner.

+ iTunes rips and burns music CDs just fine, albeit no so quickly as a 1.5 GHz dual core AMD system running XP/64 with the same RAM !

+ Included software - Microsoft Works. Oh well :( ! Star Office 3.3. Very much better :) !

+ ASUS on-line storage. Neat, easy, and built-in available. Great idea !

+/- The keyboard is a little small (I'm 6'4" and my hand-span is about 8" - enough to use the left-hand shift key and the P key on a "normal" keyboard ! This is just another alteration to the layout - the one that Logitech has done, making a huge Delete key, worries me far more because I might delete something without knowing it!

- No pre-installed anti-virus. I added Avast immediately. It's free for the home edition and works very well.

- WinAmp doesn't recognise the burner as a "portable device", so I haven't been able to rip and re-burn anything using WinAmp :(

- The Windows version asks that you register with Microsoft. Well, fair enough, but I couldn't when it asked, as I didn't have a net connection yet. Now, of course, I can't find it again. I will, but it's a waste of my time :(

- Included software - Microsoft Works. Why waste all this space ?

- splitting the hard drive into C: and D:. It's only 15o GB, so it won't be long before people are running out of C: and not knowing about D: !
=============================
Overall ? I really like it, and the Wow! factor is a serious plus too :)"
