"A recent business trip to the Gaylord Opryland, I was relegated to a near "basement" room, with a view of 4 feet of raw dirt and the feet of passersby through a unkempt hedge.
There was absolutely NO signage for the simultaneous tradeshows/conferences going on, and it took 30 minutes of traipsing back and forth to find a single hotel employee who had to call in to find where the conference was held.
When I found this gracious person, I commented on my dungeon, complete with 15 W energy saving lights (some dimmer than others), by which one could not even read - particularly considering that my "raw earth view". She offered to change my room, but neglected to have my bags moved or to contact me with a new room. Post-event and a dinner of well-done (read, overcooked) filet mignons, I repeated the long hike back to the check-in desk where a manager finally found me a room - for handicapped guests.
Some designer did not consider the word handicapped! Had I BEEN in a wheelchair, I'd never be able to clamber up out of the low bed and into it!
To top it off, in this purported mere 3-star hotel (what the front desk staff boasted), I was charged $32 for room service - eggs benedict and a $5 glass of orange juice, including a 21% tip and a delivery charge. I've no problem with $22 - $24 for a 3-star, but those always included a large breakfast with juice AND coffee!
This place has an beautiful atrium, but it has been added onto so many times that it has become a hodgepodge of barely connected wings that require an unbelievable amount of hiking up and down broken escalators to get from point A to B.
The final clincher the $5/day charge for NOT using their parking lot (I didn't have a car).
Okay, every gripe deserves a kudo. The spa was amazing. I had little free time, but the facial I had was wonderful. The facialist was top notch and very professional. This one, wonderful highlight salvaged my sanity!"
