Los Pilones, July 7, 2009
By Shenrap

"The first couple of times of eating at Los Pilones on the Kerkstraat was most enjoyable. When we got back to Amsterdam, we went with friends early in 2009. It was not the same. The food, alas, was mediocre. When our main dish was served, we asked where were our frijoles and were simply informed that "We are out of beans." And normally we would have each had two margeritas a piece, but by the end of the meal, we were still drinking the first one. Someone from another table sent her margerita back. They were dull and unpalatable, so I understood why. Yesterday I saw another Los Pilones in the Jordaan, but after checking online, I realize it is still the same management. It is most disappointing, and I just cannot muster enough enthusiasm to go back again. We had originally gone to the restaurant because visiting friends informed us that this was the best Mexican restaurant in Amsterdam if not Europe. It is no longer."
