"The songs, are well...OK. The nuts and bolts of songwriting are there, but (to me) the assemblage lacks a transcendent spark. Eilen's voice is bluesy, but on this album displays narrow sonic, dynamic, and emotional ranges. Basically like listening to the same few notes played at the same volume, with the same attack, in the same key, for 45 minutes straight. Lucinda Williams on double meds. In fact , if you put a Williams recording into the mix, it immediately points up the shortcomings of "Sinners". Granted, Wiliams comprehends the "art" far better than most. I would like this CD if it went beyond wallowing in melancholy from first to last note. Unfortunately, after the first few songs, the words don't keep me interested enough to overcome the presentation."
