Tippmann A-5 Basic Review., April 12, 2009

"The Tippmann A-5 is a beginner's favorite. It is my first and current gun. Though it costs $240, this gun is designed to last at least 5 years and it comes with a one year warranty. However, the overrated field-strip feature I couldn't manage to pull off. The push pins are in there pretty tight. I accidentally discharged a ball and it smeared all over the inside of the gun. Without even taking anything apart, I found that if i shot a good amount of rounds, the air-powered Cyclone Feed System managed to clean out a good amount of the paint. However, the accuracy still became a pain after the paint was in there. For the first time, I managed to take apart, clean out, and put the Tippmann A-5 completely back together in a mere hour and had it working again.

But then the accuracy started to drop again. I realized it wasn't the gun, it was the pathetic stock barrel. If you have troubles hitting people, I strongly reccomend upgrading to the Tippmann A-5 Flatline barrel. It has simple installation and works like a charm while increasing range by 100 feet.

Strengths: Very reliable, easy to maintain (once you've practiced), air-powered feed system makes sure you don't chop any paint and loads as fast as you shoot, high-powered, decent accuracy, comfortable feel, intimidating appearance and firing sound, easily upgradeable.

Weaknesses: A pain to clean chopped paint (if you hadn't done it before), feed system devours your air supply, often unreliable accuracy (with a stock barrel), many small parts.

Overall: The gun itself is very impressive. It's a good beginner's weapon of choice and has everything you expect from a paintball marker. If you don't discharge paint in the barrel, it's a simple clean. Just remove the barrel, use the squeegee in there, and lube any parts that move. If you've got $240 to spend, go out and get yourself a Tippmann A-5!"
