"The jail is a terrible...wonderful...reminder of what went on there in 1916. As an American who knew little of the history of Ireland, I read the book Ireland (Delaney) just before traveling to Dublin last year. The chapter on the tragedies of April 1916 made me feel the presence of the heroes who spent their last days in the jail. Our visit there was a high point of the trip."
