"Although this machine is expensive, it is truly in a class by itself. Ice is pulverized into powder in seconds. Citrucel, when blended in the Vita-Mix with orange juice and ice, becomes a great tasting smoothie instead of a gritty fiber drink. Fresh lemon juice, ice and sugar become a smooth lemon-ice dessert in half a minute. Ice, root beer and ice cream instantly become a perfect root beer freeze. We had an older Vita-Mix before (the 3600 stainless steel series that you used to see at state fairs in the 70's), and absolutely nothing--certainly no other blender--compares to the new machine. This is one of the few kitchen appliances that would be instantly replaced in the unlikely event that it should ever break. For cost-conscious buyers, the refurbished units from Vita-Mix bring down the price somewhat."
