LIttleton Coin, January 2, 2009
By amarillokidd

"I started collecting coins 25 years ago at the age of 13. I got a mailer from Littleton at some point in the 1980's, and even as a kid, I noticed their prices were extremely high compared to my local coin dealer. I even compared their prices to the Blackbook, and they were routinely twice as expensive as the Blackbook's listed prices. I can remember selling my common date Mercury dimes in middle school to other kids using Littleton's catalog as a price reference. Every kid thought they were getting a deal from me after seeing the prices Littleton was charging, and I made a nice profit to buy more coins with.
Littleton is a quality company, that much I believe, or they would not still be around. They do also educate new collectors about numismatics, but that learning comes with a cost, which is something you can get for free on a bourse floor at a coin show, or in your local shop.
Of course having coins delivered and guaranteed as genuine by their experts is another bonus.
As a seasoned coin collector, I would stay away from Littleton, but for a new collector with no local shop or coin outlet that wants to enjoy collecting, I think Littleton might be a place to start.
I think Susan's opinion is right on."
