"Bad news first - My Eheim Ecco filter is/was a total bust. Was a pain to use and died quickly and since a replacement impeller is not available (you have to buy the whole head which costs about $5 less than a whole new filter) , I elected to scrap it.
Good news - My Eheim 2228 has been the BEST canister filter I've ever used. Over 10 years use (27/7 mind you) and NO problems or issues at all. Unequaled reliability and extreme ease of use make these my #1 pick for canister filters. If you are on a tight budget, check out Rena, But if you don't mind spending a few hundred dollars for the reliability and convenience, Eheim canisters can't be beat."
