Founding Farmers is green and good!, October 21, 2008
By SilveCook

"having heard about it from a lot of friends recently, and reading about green initiatives in DC, thought I'd try out Founding Farmers and went on a Tuesday evening and sat at the bar. The bartenders were very informative and attentive and meticulous - the drinks are all made by hand - carefully measured and all the mixers are fresh daily. I had the organic cucumber delight, made with organic vodka. it was light and refreshing. To start, I had the flatbreads with marscapone and dried figs, which were fantastic, and i also tried the butternut squash ravioli. The pasta is made in house and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned with fresh rosemary - a delicious combination. Full, but wanting to try a dessert, i had the chocolate pudding, which was more mousse-like, but rich and filling and i could not finish it all. By the time i left the bar was getting pretty full and there were lots of young professionals eager to try out some of the different cocktails, so the bartender was very helpful and offered good suggestions to a couple that was seated next to me. I really like the decor, which is a blend of old, reclaimed barnwoods and similar materials like aluminum roofing (up the staircase) and there are lots of modern touches, too. The restrooms are fun and somewhat whimsical, and the dyson hand dryers are the best! My next viist will be with a group of friends so we can sit at a long table together upstairs and try to get a different perspective. And, having more people will allow me to try a lot more of the dishes on the large menu."
