4212 Dovetail Jig, December 28, 2008
By rwyoung99

"On the whole, this is a fine jig and works exactly as advertised. For me, it produced a tight, flush through dovetail after one experimental pass to fine-tune the bit height and template location. The key is to not only RTFM but to engage your brain and think about what you are reading.

Frankly, I'm not to sure why some people are having such problems with it. The documentation supplied, while it does have a few spelling errors and could benefit from the services of a good copy editor, is more than adaquate. I think the real problem is operator error and not knowing how the joint is supposed to function. If you can visualize how the joint goes together then it is quite simple to understand how the jig works and how to adjust it.

That said, two more things will really help. First is to go to www.woodworkingonline.com and find the podcast on machine-cut dovetails. They demo the 4212. Second, go to the Porter Cable website and prowl around to get to the service site (deWalt since they own PC I believe) and download the suplimentary manal for the 4212."
