Works, but no support, and lots of positives,

"AVG Free is easy to install and has a fairly small footprint compared to other programs. It includes an e-mail scanner, and a browser toolbar and link scanner that examines each Internet page you access. The toolbar slows IE8 to a crawl and should not be used, and it's tricky to disable without getting warnings. AVG Free finds false positives here every few days, lots of them. Because it's the free edition, you can't use the built-in method of reporthing them, and if you send them by e-mail you get auto-answers indicating that you are not entitled to support. If you then respond and get a little nasty, someone will respond asking for the false positive file. You get the distinct impression they're doing you a favor as you try to improve their product. There are other free programs that may suit you better, such as: Avira, Avast, and my favorite, Malwarebytes. When they "improved" AVG Free, they took a small, fast, efficient and useful program and turned it into a resource-ravenous monster that works, but has such high overhead you really need to consider finding a good replacement."
