Concise coin reference book, February 1, 2009

"I like this book because it is small. It has a binding like a spiral notebook which makes the pages stay open where you want them and prevents tears. The quality of the paper is excellent and the coins referenced are displayed in actual clear photos (not drawings). I found all the US denominations and major varieties listed. There's probably more, too, but that's all that interests me. One thing I like about the coin listings is that the dimensions, diameter in mm and metal content, of each type are listed. One thing I didn't like was that all the grades weren't listed, such as PF-65, MS-66 (I believe- I don't have the book in front of me), and all PL and DMPLs.
The main point of the book is as a coin price guide. Since it's published for a whole year, I suppose some estimates would need to be made but overall I found it pretty accurate. In fact, I found most of the prices listed to be lower than those listed by PCGS or Bestcoin. For instance, the latter two services had an MS-64 1921 Peace dollar retailing at $995 and the Redbook put it at $775. The lower price is definitely more in touch with reality because this coin is currently going for $500-700. RA"
