"My mother suffered through the war as a young teenage girl in Yugoslavia and this film hit home as she saw many of her jewish friends perish in front of her. On the not so decent scenes they were not too frequent or too much and never last but a few seconds. It was necessary to show how men acted especially during war time when they don't have women around and the same for women who wanted to survive. My mother said it happened all the time. They had to hide her older sister so she would not be hurt. But to get back to the plot this is a must see for movie buffs especially those who like history. The director takes you from one moment to the next so fast that the racy scenes are quickly forgotten and the story continues so compelling that you feel the toughness and lack of emotion in order to survive, then the director causes you to feel anguish and angry, frustration, humiliation, and you start wondering who is who and what will be found out at the end. Get a strong cigar, cigarette or drink and if you don't drink get some beef jerky cause you'll choke on your popcorn. It is riveting and believeable and watch the special features at the end to find out how the heroine ends up at the end years later. Every rotten scoundrel and every allie is present in this movie. This is one that you will want to show your movie buff friends. Here is a pic of my grandma from the old country who passed away after fighting many illnesses including cancer from all she experienced without her husband for 10 years. I loved her dearly."
