"This is a terrific recipe. Salt is only mentioned in the list of ingredients; I added some during the cooking of onions and garlic, to help release some water and concentrate the onion flavor ... and of course at the end to bring it to my taste. I also substituted canned San Marzano tomatoes because I could not find any fresh ones that were ripe ... and the soup was wonderful; thick and full of onion flavor."
