Miso Dipping sauce is WAY TOO SALTY!, May 18, 2009
By chynnadahl

"I thought this recipe would be like the ones I've had at restaurants but this recipe was too salty and thin.
To start off, soy sauce is salty as well as the miso paste (I used white miso). The ground sesame and sesame oil gave deep flavor but mainly all you can taste in this recipe is salt!

The size of apple and onion are not given here so it would be nicer if exact measurements were given. I grated 1/2 a large onion and it yielded 3/4 cup.

If I were to make this recipe again i would start with the miso paste (why 3/5 cup? Such an odd number). Perhaps use a neutral oil like canola in place of the soy sauce to make the dipping sauce more like a sauce than a liquid. I would probably add soy sauce to taste after drizzling the approximate amount of oil to make the mixture emulsify. This would definitely tame down the saltiness.

This recipe as it stands yields almost a quart."
