Sally Lunn Bread, May 14, 2009
By Needlepoint142

"In Virginia we usually do not use bread flour. This bread is generally made with all-purpose flour.

This bread was available as both Sally Lunn muffins (made in Texas muffin pans) or as a ring at bakeries including the bakery at Thalhimer's Department Store, Sally Belle's in Richmond, and other well-known bakeries. Thalhimer's closed some years ago.

Sally Lunn is served at The Smithfield Station in Smithfield,Virginia, and at various taverns operated by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

Sally Lunn is a tradition in the South and is served quite often. You either love it or you hate it."
