What am I doing wrong?,

"These cookies are delicious and baked up nicely but the batter was too soft to roll and cut. Should the entire 1/4 cup of milk be added or just enough to get the right consistency? I dropped them on the sheet and sort of smeared them into shape. I'd like to add it to my recipe box but not until I know it is correct. Thank you in advance, Saad!
ps. the aroma was almost as wonderful as the flavor..."
