Good soup, rice portion is totally off,

"This is a decent carrot soup recipe but 1 cup of uncooked rice does not equal 1 lonely potato--that's a huge difference in starch. We reduced the recommended 1 cup of rice to 3/4 cup and that still wasn't enough to stop the soup from tasting like porridge. You had to add a full cup of broth following processing just to get the soup to the right consistency and by then the carrot flavour was quite diminished and the whole soup was bland.
I remember a carrot soup recipe from the 90s thickened with rice (a great low-fat idea), which is why I searched for one with rice in the key words. I think the rice portion probably has to be 1/4 or 1/3 cup. If I were doing this for company I'd be majorly p'od."
